In 2019, the market opens on 27 November and closes on 23 December. the city of the Pied Piper<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>Hamelin is a picturesque town with an evocative history, perhaps best known for being the birthplace of the story of the Pied Piper by the Brothers Grimm. The town\u2019s identity and marketing profile centres around this tale, and you will find numerous statues, monuments, ornamentation and, not least, events portraying the story of the fateful day of 26 June 1284 when 130 children from the town disappeared and were never found or heard of again.<\/p>\n<p>Even the Christmas Market features the tale of the Pied Piper, with rats prominent in a number of the handicrafts on sale. During my visit to the town for the Christmas Market, I was also taken on a guided tour of Hamelin by the Pied Piper himself!<\/p>\n<p>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;3.0.67&#8243; custom_padding=&#8221;|100px||100px&#8221; custom_padding_phone=&#8221;|0px||0px&#8221; custom_padding_last_edited=&#8221;on|phone&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h2><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"Sightseeing_in_Hamelin_with_the_Pied_Piper_himself\"><\/span>Sightseeing in Hamelin with the Pied Piper himself!<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n<p>The Christmas Market is very child-friendly with an ice-rink for children, a huge advent calendar, a tiny house where children can bake, a Christmas pyramid more than 10 metres tall and a vast Snow Globe in addition to a charming merry-go-round. If you take a close look at the ornamentation around the fountain, you will see rats, a lot of rats. They were not so easy to see with the statue covered by a Snow Globe. Three times a day, at 1.05pm, 3.35pm and 5.35pm, a clockwork chime starts and a window opens to show the tale of the Pied Piper of Hamelin with rotating figures. When this blends with the aroma of fried Bratwurst, Gl\u00fchwein and other delicacies, you can\u2019t help but feel festive.<\/p>\n<p>The classic decorated gingerbread hearts and other figures are very popular at the German Christmas Markets, and Hamelin is no exception. Not only are they very decorative, they taste amazing and are a great gift. And this is the main impression I\u2019m left with after having visited four different Christmas Markets \u2013 it doesn\u2019t matter what you buy, drink or eat, Christmas Markets are all about meeting up with old and new friends, getting into the Christmas spirit and just being together. One great souvenir from many German Christmas Markets is the cup you get your Gl\u00fchwein in. You can exchange your cup for a clean one and take it home with you. Most stalls charge a deposit of one or two Euros that you get back if you choose to return your cup. If you don\u2019t hand it back, you have in principle purchased the cup as a great souvenir. Mye av byens identitet og markedsf\u00f8ring handler om nettopp dette og der er mange statuer, monumenter, dekorelementer og ikke minst events som omhandler den skjebnesvangre dagen 26. juni 1284 da 130 av byens barn forsvant ut av byen og aldri ble funnet eller h\u00f8rt fra siden.\r\n\r\nSelv julemarkedet b\u00e6rer preg av historien om Rottefangeren og der selges dekor-rotter flere steder. Da jeg bes\u00f8kte julemarkedet var det dagslys, men jeg ble fortalt at det \"sn\u00f8r\" inni julekulen ved hjelp av lysdekor om kvelden. Om du studerer n\u00f8yere p\u00e5 dekorelementene langs fontenen finner du massevis av rotter. Det var ikke s\u00e5 lett \u00e5 se n\u00e5 n\u00e5r den var dekket som en julekule. Tre ganger for dagen, klokken 13.05, 15.35 og 17.35 starter ogs\u00e5 et klokkespill og det \u00e5pner seg en luke hvor historien om Rottefangeren fra Hameln blir fortalt med figurer som roterer. I tillegg til \u00e5 v\u00e6re sv\u00e6rt s\u00e5 dekorative smaker de kjempegodt og er en koselig gave til noen du er glad i. Etter \u00e5 ha bes\u00f8kt 4 julemarkeder er det hovedinntrykket jeg satt igjen med etterp\u00e5. Det spiller egentlig ikke s\u00e5 my rolle hva man kj\u00f8per, drikker eller spiser. Julemarkeder er et sted \u00e5 treffe gamle eller nye venner og kjente, kjenne p\u00e5 den koselige julestemningen og bare v\u00e6re ute sammen. Om du \u00f8nsker \u00e5 ha med deg en souvenir kan du p\u00e5 mange av markedene ta med deg koppen du drikker av, eller gj\u00f8re som meg, bytte inn koppen i en ren etter du er ferdig og s\u00e5 ta den med deg. De fleste bodene har en pant p\u00e5 koppen p\u00e5 1 eller 2 euro som du f\u00e5r igjen n\u00e5r du leverer koppen inn. Leverer du den ikke inn igjen har du i prinsippet kj\u00f8pt den og har med deg et fint minne hjem.
