What would you have done if you were given the opportunity to taste more than a hundred different types of quality wine in one day? In the historical Valtice Castle, located in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic, you can actually experience such a thing. You see, the Valtice Castle is home to the Czech National Wine Centre, and they offer their visitors the opportunities to taste their way through the country\u2019s hundred best wines \u2013 and for a rather affordable price, as well.<\/p>\n

The National Wine Centre is a non-profit organisation whose goal is to enhance the reputation of Czech wine and wine culture. Every year, the centre holds a competition to select the best wine in the Czech Republic. Each wine is of course tested, tried and measured by renowned wine experts. This is currently the highest ranking wine award in the Czech Republic, and the winners are awarded the honour of marking their bottles with \u201cSalon v\u00edn \u010cesk\u00e9 republiky\u201d, a title meaning \u201cWine Salon of the Czech Republic\u201d.<\/p>\n

It is only the hundred best wines each year that will be marked with the renowned \u201cSalon v\u00edn \u010cesk\u00e9 republiky\u201d-logo. Following the award, the bottles are then included in the yearly wine tasting exhibition held in the cellar of the Valtice Castle. In other words, not only does the cellar offer a hundred different types of wine, but they actually offer you a tasting of the hundred best wines in the country!<\/p>\n

I know what you are thinking – gaining access to all of these amazing quality wines must surely be quite expensive, right? Well, it is actually rather affordable! The current price for a standard wine tasting session is at 399CZK, which is equivalent to a about 15 euros. That is certainly not bad for a tasting that lasts for 1.5 hours! If you choose to add an extra 4-5 euros, you will get an hour extra in the wine cellar and thereby take part in what they refer to as the \u201cextended wine tasting\u201d.<\/p>\n

During the wine tasting, you will receive a wine glass to carry around with you. All the different types of wine are open for you to try, and there is also bread that will help you neutralize your taste buds between the different tastings. Water is of course available, too. In addition, there are several stations where you can clean your glass between tastings.<\/p>\n

Our tasting started near the first cask where you can find wines number 1-5. The numbers are not in any way connected to their ranking in the competition.<\/p>\n

It is up to you whether you prefer to do a guided tasting or if you would rather venture out on your own. All the different wines are neatly lined up in the cellar, easily reachable, and they all come with thorough descriptions of their taste, which type of grape they stem from, at which winery it was produced and other useful information. Not only will you be able to taste the delicious wine, but you will also have the option of buying a bottle or two of your very own favourite. Remember to bring one of the handy shopping carts with you, so that you can easily bring your favourite bottles home.<\/p>\n

We chose a guided tasting through the extensive wine cellar of Valtice Castle. Our sommelier was incredibly knowledgeable, and he told us everything we needed to know about the different wines and the areas they are being produced in.<\/p>\n

In the exhibition, you can read more about the wine and bring a bottle of your favourite back to the hotel or back home. You will most definitely find a new favourite here.<\/p>\n

While the exhibition is permanent, the selection is still updated and changed every year after the yearly competition. Beware that the wine cellar is closed all of January, in order to prepare for the new wine selection in the exhibition. Besides that, the exhbition is open for visitors all year round, except for Mondays. The wine cellar is only open on Sundays during the Summer season. Valtice Castle is located in the town of Valtice, in the South Moravian region of the Czech Republic. This is in the South of the country, and it is close to the border where Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia meets. The town is only an hour from Brno, the biggest city in South Moravia, and only an hour\u2019s drive from both Vienna and Bratislava.<\/p>\n

Det Nasjonale Vinsenteret<\/a> er en ideell organisasjon som jobber for \u00e5 fremme Tsjekkisk vin og vinkultur og avholder hvert \u00e5r en konkurranse hvor Tjekkiske viner testes og m\u00e5les av et ekspertpanel. Utmerkelsene fra denne konkurransen er den h\u00f8yeste i Tsjekkia og det \u00e5 bli anerkjent i denne gir vinprodusentene rett til \u00e5 merke flaskene med\u00a0\u201cSalon v\u00edn \u010cesk\u00e9 republiky\u201d (\u201cWine Salon of the Czech Republic\u201d).

Det er kun de 100 beste vinene hvert \u00e5r som f\u00e5r retten til \u00e5 merke flaskene sine med \u201cSalon v\u00edn \u010cesk\u00e9 republiky\u201d-emblemet og vinen blir samtidig innlemmet i den \u00e5rlige smaks- og salgsutstillingen i kjelleren av Valtice slottet. S\u00e5nn sett vet man ogs\u00e5 at det ikke bare er 100 viner tilgjengelig for smaking, men det er de 100 aller beste vinene!

Det smakes og prates og vinkurvene fylles opp. Stemningen stiger etterhvert som vi beveger oss lenger innover i vinkjelleren.<\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>


Du tenker kanskje at det \u00e5 ha fri tilgang for \u00e5 smake p\u00e5 s\u00e5 mye og s\u00e5 mange ulike kvalitetsviner du vil m\u00e5 v\u00e6re veldig dyrt. Pris for en standard smaking koster 399 CZK, noe som tilsvarer i underkant av 150,- norske kroner<\/b>, og denne varer i 1,5 timer. Slenger du p\u00e5 40,- norske kroner til kan du legge p\u00e5 en time og foreta en s\u00e5kalt utvidet smaking.

Under smakingen f\u00e5r du utdelt et vinglass som du b\u00e6rer med deg rundt. Alle vinene er \u00e5pen og tilgjengelig og der er br\u00f8d for \u00e5 n\u00f8ytralisere mellom hver vin og der er selvsagt vann tilgjengelig i kjelleren. Der er ogs\u00e5 flere skyllestasjoner som du kan rengj\u00f8re glasset ditt p\u00e5 underveis.

Du kan foreta b\u00e5de guidet smaking eller \u00e5 bare g\u00e5 rundt p\u00e5 egen h\u00e5nd. Alle vinene st\u00e5r linet opp rundt om i kjelleren med beskrivelser av smaker, druetyper, ving\u00e5rden den er produsert p\u00e5 og mye annen nyttig informasjon. I tillegg til \u00e5 smake p\u00e5 vinene kan du ogs\u00e5 kj\u00f8pe med deg en flaske eller to av din favoritt, s\u00e5 husk \u00e5 ta med deg en kurv om du ogs\u00e5 vil sikre deg noen godbiter med hjem.

Utstillingen er regnet for \u00e5 v\u00e6re permanent men endres hvert \u00e5r etter den \u00e5rlige smaksk\u00e5ringen er foretatt. S\u00e5ledes holder de stengt i Januar for \u00e5 forberede den nye utstillingen basert p\u00e5 de nye listene. Ellers i \u00e5ret er kjelleren \u00e5pen for smaking alle dager unntatt mandag (s\u00f8ndager kun \u00e5pen i sommersesongen) Sjekk gjerne hjemmesidene<\/a> for \u00e5pningstider.

Valtice slottet ligger lokalisert i S\u00f8r Moravia i byen Valtice som ligger helt s\u00f8r i Tsjekkia i grenseomr\u00e5det hvor \u00d8sterrike, Tsjekkia og Slovakia m\u00f8tes. Byen ligger ca. 1 times kj\u00f8ring fra Brno, som er den st\u00f8rste byen i S\u00f8r Moravia, og kun en dr\u00f8y times kj\u00f8ring fra b\u00e5de Wien og Bratislava.
