Diving and snorkling at Aka Island

If you enjoy diving and snorkling, a visit to the lovely little island Aka outside Okinawa, Japan should be on your travel list. To reach Aka, which is a part of the Kerama Islands, you can take a ferry boat for about 1 hour and 10 minutes. The ferry will also take you to other beautiful islands in the Kerama, ideal if you are looking for some island hopping.

Aka Island is a paradise

The population on Aka Island is around 200 people, and there are no hotels, even though there are a few visitors. If you want to spend the night on the island, there's a lot of home-stay opportunities, giving you a comfortable bed and traditional Japanese meals cooked by the family hosting you.

Around the island there a lot of beautiful beaches where it is easy to snorkel, swim and relax. If you want to dive or snorkle in a more interesting area, you can join one of the diving companies who will take you out to different lovely spots around the island.

In the bay right next to the center you can watch sea turtles swimming.

The clear water in the area is ideal for great diving and snorkeling experiences. There are over 250 different types of coral in the area, and some of the coral reefs is found in very shallow water. You can also meet sea turtles and a lot of colorful fish and sea creatures when diving.
